Board of Directors Consulting and Facilitation

A board of directors, whether for a large company, a small company, or a non-profit organization, is expected to perform critical functions in order to discharge its obligations to the organization and the stakeholders. In so doing, it must operate much like any team. Its members must set ground rules for operating, communicate effectively with one another, learn to make decisions together, and think critically about the issues and the long-range plans presented by the organization’s management.

Dr. Geber has served on several corporate and non-profit governing boards as well as facilitating the work of others’ boards. Newly formed boards and established boards alike will find value in having her help to streamline their interaction, raise the productivity in meetings, and stick to board-specific areas.

Areas that can be addressed are:

The board's role versus management's role

Setting boundaries: staying out of day-to-day management

The importance of understanding the broader business/community landscape

Avoiding group-think and faulty reasoning

Achieving membership balance

Asking critical questions - of management and other board members

Partnering with the CEO

How and when to release an ineffective CEO

Holding effective board retreats

Working with stakeholders/shareholders

Developing standards of ethics
