Interviewing and Staff Selection Skills

Selecting the right person for the job is a critical business and management skill. It is the first step in building a competent, productive team.

There is more to hiring employees than reading resumes and holding interviews. Hiring managers must know what the job requires in the way of skills, experience, and style and understand how to evaluate prospective candidates for those attributes.

Managers who do not understand all the dynamics involved in this complex process can saddle themselves with poorly performing employees chosen carelessly for the wrong positions – and never know why it happened!

In this workshop, participants will learn how to:

Determine the competencies, experience, education, and style necessary for success in the job

Understand the importance of style

Read and screen resumes and determine who to interview

Write effective interview questions

Determine who should do the interviewing and what interview format to use

Practice effective interviewing techniques

Probe for deeper information and experience-based evidence

Evaluate interview results

Make a decision grid for candidate selection

Choose the very best candidate for the job
