Strategic Planning

"Good business leaders create a vision, articulate the vision, passionately own the vision, and relentlessly drive it to completion."

- Jack Welch

Effective strategic planning requires both a backward- and forward-thinking (systems thinking) process by the entire leadership team. Together, in this way, they will define their ideal future vision and core strategies for achieving it. It is important for the entire leadership team to participate in this process for the simple reason that people support what they help create.

A beginning exercise encourages leaders to develop a shared vision of the future and to communicate core values and strategies. It aligns everyone’s goals to the same end – the customer. This makes decision-making easier, by far. Then a set of specific and quantifiable measures can be developed that identify success year after year and serve as a determinant for budgets, priorities, staffing, and operational goals.

Key Strategic Planning Processes Include:

Development of a Vision Statement

Drafting of a Mission Statement

Articulating Core Values

Determining Key Success Factors

Developing Strategy to Bridge the Current State-Future State Gap

Converting Strategy to Action

Developing Implementation Plans

Organizing for Implementation

Identifying the Leadership Steering Committee and their Tasks
